England, October 1642: The war between King Charles and his Parliament reaches a watershed as the clash of ideologies becomes a clash of armies on the battlefield of Edgehill.
I gave the first two books of Eleanor Swift-Hook’s ‘Lord’s Legacy’ series well-deserved five stars, and really enjoyed reading the third. The English Civil War is now well underway, and everyone has to make the life changing decision about supporting the royalists of King Charles or the Parliamentarian army.
I was particularly impressed by the details of the build up to the battle of Edgehill, and the fight scenes, which again have the ‘cinematic’ quality of the second book.
We discover a softer side to the enigmatic Philip Lord, and (spoiler alert) Gideon Lennox aka Fox is finally beginning to understand him.
A true page-turner, I found I was looking forward to getting back to the story, which ended all too soon. Fortunately I already had the fourth book ready.
This would work as a stand alone, but I highly recommend starting with book one of the series.
